Orient Beach is a part of France, where all beaches are public places.
No, you certainly don't. Orient Beach is what is known as a clothes optional beach.
No, all around you will be people in various stages of dress and undress. Some fully clothed, others in swimsuits and others naked as the day they were born.
It certainly is a problem if you plan to expose skin that has never seen the sun before. It is very difficult to tan virgin skin. Use plenty of sunblock and apply it before going to the beach and then again after your first swim. The idea of applying it more than once is to cover the spots you missed on the first application. I've often seen people who have spent the day in the sun with only one application, the next day the spots they missed are red raw. I've also seen folk fried on the very first day of their week-long vacation.
Yes, at the main entrance to Club Orient Hotel there are change rooms, showers, lockers and restrooms. There are restrooms where you can change at the variou restaurants along the beach.
Naturism tends to be very much a couples and family scene. Match making is something we do with our cloths ON. Clothes are very important to us humans. Not only do they protect us from the enviroment but what we we wear is a signal to our fellow brothers and sisters of who we are, and who we wish we were. The style, cut, and who made the clothing, and how it is worn is a visual sign of our personalities. An important part of the mating game.
You'll mainly find couples in the prodominately nude section of the beach in front of Club Orient. Your best to meet a sweetheart is in the Kon Tiki area of Orient beach where it is much more of a singles scene. As far as hotels go, you'd be much better of staying at a hotel in the Maho/Mullet Bay area, where there is a great nightlife and lots of singles staying in the hotels.
I'll be arriving St Martin on a cruise ship and staying one day only. Could I catch a taxi or bus over to Orient Beach for a visit and get back to the ship before she sails.
You certainly can. Before you arrive in St Martin, information will be circulated on day trips available to Orient Beach. Trips are by organised tour buses from the wharf to the beach and back again to meet the ship before departure. All trips include a commentary tour of the island and some include lunch at one of the restaurants when you arrive at the beach. Prices and what is offered in the tour page vary. But there will certainly be something to suit your requirements.
You can also take a taxi from the wharf to the beach. The cost to hire the taxi one way is $20 to $25. You'd be advised to make an aggreement on the price with the driver before departure. Taxi's return to Orient beach in the afternoon to pick up passengers returning to the ship. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to find a taxi to get back to the ship. The taxi drivers are generally excellent tour guides, friendly and lots of fun, they graciously accept U.S. dollars and travellers checks. If you take the bus trip you'll most likely be able to pay by credit card on board the ship.
There are no public restrooms or public showers. Club Orient Hotel provides restrooms and showers near the main entrance to the hotel for day visitors. All the restaurants along the beach provide restrooms and at a minimum an outside shower. Some showers have a privacy shelter around them and some don't.
Is it worth the time and effort to fly all the way from New York to St Martin for a weekend just to experience public nudity
You could probably find a place where public nudity was the norm closer to home, but most people are affraid that they'll meet the boss or the guy next door there. Also, the idea of getting your gear off on a nude beach in a foreign country, miles from home while you're on vacation sounds a lot more fun and less threatening than visiting the local nudist colony. It sure would be worth your time and money to spend a weekend at Orient beach. Numerous people have told me over the years that they had read and heard a lot about Orient beach and the temptation to see and experience the place became overwhelming. All they could in afford time and money was a few days, but they enjoyed every minute of the experience. Go for it!
My wife and I have booked a weeks vacation at a hotel on Orient Beach. Neither of us have been to a nude beach before. While there, my wife is keen to find a secluded spot to make love on the beach. Is it possible without getting caught.?
It certainly is possible, late night or in the early hours of the morning. But remember other people stroll along the beach at night and also security guards often patrol the beach. But you should be able to find yourselves a private place.
The same fun during the day is a little more difficult. One idea would be to get the first ride over to the little island of Green Key in the morning with the intent of going snorkelling. You may be lucky and have the whole island to yourself for an hour or two before other visitors arrive.
Yes, they sure do. After an hour or less of looking, many relize they are missing out on some good fun and get their textiles off and join in.
Unfortunately shade is at a minimum at Orient Beach. If the sun gets too hot you may have to head for the shade of one of the many beach bars or restaurants. Or simply hire an umbrella for the day from one of the concession stands.
No problem, as they say in Jamaicia. Nude snorkelling is great, remember your buns will poke out the top of the water and be liable to severe sunburn, so use plenty of sunblock on them.
It will be my first time at a nude beach when I arrive at Orient beach for my vacation next week. Is there somewhere secluded that a first timer could go to get accustomed to nudity?
It's difficult to find a secluded place on the beach during the day, your best time is before 9 a.m. each morning. Also many people take a trip to Green Key ( a small island about half a mile from Orient Beach, served by watertaxis from Orient Beach) Here you'll probably find yourself sharing the beach with only a few other couples at any time throughout the day
(The following is taken from a post on our message board )
Erections are very normal...especially with first timers in a nudist setting...and the bottom line is that it's more how you act when one pops up than it is the fact that it DID pop up.
If it just happens when you're walking down the beach with your lady and you just ignore it or you go in the water or, if you're sunbathing, you roll over or cover it up or do anything that indicates that you're not threatening, you'll be fine. In fact, if you just act normal and don't approach people or parade around striking poses for the whole beach, you'll find that many women actually enjoy looking (Hey...it's their vacation too!) and most men don't care...they've been there and most have been a little embarrassed by an inopportune woody at some time.
It happens to some guys when they're playing sports like volleyball on the beach and it happens sometime at dances on nude cruise ships or at places like Club Orient, Hedonism etc. But..lets face it...dancing is meant to be a little sexy even though nudism is not about sex. Most people, both men and women on a dance floor, will just ignore it...especially if the couple is just dancing and laughing about it and acting normal...that's the key.
If you like Orient Beach you might want to try a nudist resort in your area. Most nudist resorts in the U.S. are very much family oriented and will have a lot of kids. In this setting, it's pretty important that you roll over or go in the pool as soon as possible if a woody pops...people will become offended if they're kids are present and you're something less than a little modest if it happens.
Having said that...I have to say from a lifetime of being a nudist...it rarely happens in a family nudist resort setting.
